New Life Church gets borough approval to hold free community meal at Fountain Park

Diane Snook, representing New Life Church of Burnham, asked Lewistown Borough Council for permission to host "food and fellowship" events at Fountain Park (Fountain Square), proposing grilled hot dogs and soup prepared in the church kitchen and served free to attendees. Snook said volunteers from local churches would staff the events, that the church holds a SafeServe kitchen license, and that the group hoped to try dates on Nov. 29 and again in December with an eye to making it monthly in better weather.
"There is no cost for any of this," Snook told the council, and she said the church would not charge attendees and would provide volunteers to run the outreach. Councilors asked clarifying questions about food-safety certification; Snook confirmed the church facility has a SafeServe food-tech certification because it runs a daycare program.
The facility-use request was included on the meetings consent agenda together with approval of Nov. 3 minutes, a schedule of bills and receipt of the tax collector. A motion and second were made and the council approved the consent agenda by voice vote ("Aye").
The church representatives thanked the council for the opportunity to speak and for the approval recorded on the consent agenda.
