The Commission on Professional Standards in Education voted to approve its 2026 meeting schedule and amended the calendar to move the August meeting to Monday, Aug. 3.
President Rosar opened discussion of the proposed 2026 calendar and asked commissioners for questions. Several commissioners raised scheduling conflicts: Commissioner Bell said May 20 coincides with Clark County School District final exams and several commissioners warned that early August dates fall during teacher work weeks or the start of the school year, which could make securing substitutes difficult.
Commissioner Schultz proposed moving the August meeting to Monday, Aug. 3; Commissioner Vonette seconded. After discussion of alternatives (including Aug. 12 and Aug. 19) and a staff note that moving some dates would shift public hearings later in the year, the commission voted to approve the calendar with the August meeting set for Aug. 3.
The change was made to maintain quorum while minimizing conflicts with district calendars, according to commissioners’ remarks during the vote. No written public comments on the schedule were reported at the meeting.
The commission noted its next scheduled meeting is Jan. 15, 2026.
