Alice ISD board approves interlocal purchasing cooperative membership and one-year facilities-use agreement

The Alice ISD board on Nov. 17 voted to permit the district to participate in an interlocal purchasing cooperative and to authorize a one-year facilities-use agreement that continues district use of the Alice Multiuse Complex.
Administration told the board the district already participates in several cooperatives and that joining the Harris County Department of Education / Choice Partners purchasing cooperative would provide additional procurement options and remain compliant with state procurement rules. "Right now, the district has 7 co ops that we partner with, and the district may participate in co ops to obtain the greater services and better goods through a competitive, allotted contract," a presenter said.
On facilities, the board approved authorizing the superintendent to execute a year-long continuation of an agreement with the Alice City Waterhub for the Multiuse Complex at the same historic cost of $60,000. The district uses the complex for daily swim practice, diving and mandatory second-grade swim lessons. Trustees asked about past maintenance issues (one recent heater outage was noted) and confirmed the one-year term.
Both motions were moved, seconded and approved by the board during the action-items portion of the meeting.
