Chrissy Trostclair, a board member of Southdown Plantation, presented the nonprofit’s upcoming holiday fundraiser to the Terrebonne Parish Council on Nov. 19, describing a timed "Portal to the North Pole" experience inside the historic Southdown house that will include room-based activities, Santa visits and a vendor marketplace.
"When you walk through the doors of the plantation, you are gonna go into like an elevator type of box and you're gonna be teleported to the North Pole," Trostclair said, explaining that tours are booked in one-hour increments and that each room contains an activity or tangible takeaway. She said the indoor experience is priced at $25 per person and that children under 1 admitted with an accompanying party are free.
Councilmembers asked about the schedule, ticketing and event uses of the museum for private parties. Trostclair said the organization had sold about $5,000 in tickets and vendor spaces as of the previous day and encouraged residents to attend to keep holiday spending local.
The presentation was received with council praise for community programming and was singled out as part of broader Terrebonne Cajun Christmas activities being promoted this season.
