The Beaumont City Council voted unanimously in closed session on Nov. 18 to appoint Gustavo Romo as interim city manager.
Phaedra, reporting out after the closed session, said: "The city council has appointed Gustavo Romo as the interim city manager by unanimous vote." She said the council set compensation at the first step of the city-manager range and that a contract would be brought back for open-session approval on Dec. 2.
The appointment followed a closed-session agenda that included labor negotiations, pending litigation, and the public-employee appointment for interim city manager. The council’s public report noted the personnel action and the planned next step: publishing the contract for formal approval in open session.
The council did not discuss operational details of the interim manager’s duties during the public report. The agenda packet and the staff report will be the public record when the contract returns to the council on Dec. 2.
