Board proposes ad hoc special education task force as IEP enrollment climbs; curriculum and program motions also on the consent agenda

Superintendent asked the board to authorize an ad hoc special education task force to study the district's growing exceptional‑student population and recommend program, placement and budget responses. She said the task force would be chaired by a board member and include special education staff, paraeducators and an advocate, and that parent representation would be considered.

The request followed PFM's budget presentation showing structural pressure from increased special‑education service needs, and the superintendent explicitly linked the proposed committee to rising service costs. "We are going to be bringing that program to our students now as an option for them to be able to take and be able to pursue here in school," a board speaker noted regarding new dual‑enrollment opportunities.

Education consent items previewed for board action included motions to approve permissions to attend conferences, appointment of a CTC representative, financial literacy and a world history course added to the required curriculum, a Johnson College industry fast‑track dual‑enrollment program for the 2026–27 school year, an MOU with the YMCA for a BOOST pilot program and continuity of operations plans for Scranton High School and South Intermediate.

Board members asked that the packet include a brief summary of policy changes to district social media referencing the first read of revisions. The superintendent said she would request a board member to spearhead the special‑education committee after reorganization.
