Board approves amended charter agreement for New Village Academy Public Charter High School

The Anne Arundel County Board of Education unanimously approved an amended charter agreement with New Village Academy Public Charter High School, a project the superintendent said has been in development for three years.
Superintendent Dr. Bedell described the New Village Academy as a model that could serve students who need a "more boutique experience" and create workforce opportunities because of its location. "What we have with the New Village Academy is a model that I think potentially could become a game changer," Bedell said as he recommended approval.
Board members who spoke in favor, including Dr. Tobin, praised the school's proposed focus and its potential impact on the Annapolis community. The motion to approve the amended charter agreement passed by voice vote recorded as 8–0.
The superintendent noted he does not typically advocate for proliferation of charters in a district already performing strongly but said he supported this specific model because of its potential to address unmet student needs. The board approved the agreement and will continue to monitor implementation as the school launches.
