Garner honors Council member Kathy Behringer for 20 years of service

Mayor Daniel Gupton presented a proclamation at the Garner Town Council's Dec. 2 organizational meeting recognizing Council member Kathy Behringer for 20 years of service to the town. The proclamation cited Behringer's leadership on downtown revitalization, her role establishing the public arts advisory board and the installation of the downtown sculpture "Wings of Hope" by local artist Jeff Turr.
"Whereas Kathy Behringer has served with honor and distinction on the Garner Town Council for 20 years," the proclamation reads in part. Behringer received public praise from council colleagues who recounted her contributions to Main Street improvements, historic preservation and parks and recreation initiatives. The proclamation also noted past honors, including being named a North Carolina Main Street champion in 2011 by the NC Department of Commerce and receiving Garner service awards in 2022 and 2025.
Behringer addressed the council, recounting early civic involvement and thanking supporters. "Serving the citizens of Garner on the town council for the past 20 years has been both an honor and a privilege," she said. Council members held a brief photo opportunity after the presentation.
The meeting then proceeded with organizational business including swearing in newly elected members and appointing committee memberships.
