Board adopts fleet‑acquisition policy, authorizes Unified Fleet Services agreement

The Board of Supervisors on Nov. 18 approved a draft county fleet‑acquisition policy and a resolution authorizing an agreement with Unified Fleet Services LLC to provide vehicle sourcing, procurement, leasing and liquidation support.
County Administrative Office staff explained the policy is intended to formalize decision factors — including when to lease vs. purchase — and to provide flexibility to department heads and the CAO to choose the most cost‑effective approach while meeting operational needs. The accompanying resolution permits the county to enter into agreements that allow commercial bank financing, fleet oversight and liquidation when advantageous.
The board voted to approve the policy and execute the agreement by roll call with a unanimous 5–0 vote. County staff said Unified Fleet representatives were available to answer questions and that the policy and vendor addition aim to modernize county fleet management practices and reduce lifecycle cost.
Implementation: The CAO and fleet superintendent will operationalize the policy with departments and will present estimated savings or procurement plans as individual vehicle requests are considered.
