Atoka board adopts design standards and rezones Highway 51 parcel

The Atoka Board of Mayor and Aldermen on Nov. 18 passed three land-use items on final reading: an amendment to design standards in the municipal zoning ordinance, revised rules for commercial accessory structures, and a rezoning of a parcel on Highway 51 from suburban neighborhood residential to Highway Corridor commercial.
Mayor Barry Aiken said the design-standards change and accessory-structure clarification "tighten up our regulations" and serve both commercial entities and the town’s regulatory framework. The ordinances were read by title and moved to final passage; Alderman Giannini moved the design-standards ordinance and Alderman Schaefer seconded. Both the design-standards item and the accessory-structure ordinance passed by unanimous roll-call vote.
The board also approved a rezoning of a parcel on Highway 51 (identified in the meeting as map 111, article 086.02) to Highway Corridor commercial after a motion from Alderman Poole and a second from Alderman Giannini. Mayor Aiken noted the parcel is surrounded by highway corridor and that the change aligns the zoning map with existing corridor uses.
All three items were approved without recorded opposition.
