"With the first round we were able to go from about, in Walton County specifically, I think we were over 60 households, we are now down to about 30," a staff member said when describing the results of a mailing to confirm continued interest.
The staff member said the pause allows the office to pre‑qualify interested households and prioritize more substantial interventions (full replacements) rather than repeated small rehabs that risk having the same family return for help. "I would rather just solve the problem right then and there and then move on to the next household," she said.
Budget and spending: Committee members asked when the SHIP budget for 2026 will be available. Staff replied that the budget "has already been released, but those funds have already been essentially promised to those who are on the waiting list." Staff said typical annual service capacity ranges from roughly 2 to 7 households, depending on whether replacement or rehab is required; by keeping the waiting list to about 20 households or fewer, staff estimated they could process the list within the three‑year expenditure period.
What happens next: Staff will conduct pre‑qualification on the reduced list and said they will circulate a representation of the SHIP budget to the committee by email or at the next meeting.
