The Village of Rhinebeck board voted to set a public hearing in January to consider revising the village code that governs the single commercial loading zone on Garden Street.

Speaker 1 said police have issued tickets to drivers who park in the loading zone but that some tickets were dismissed because court rulings found the statute vague. To address enforcement gaps, the village attorney drafted a resolution to repeal and replace section 109‑25 and to amend signage language so the village can rely on tickets being upheld in court.

Board members agreed to hold the hearing at the board’s first January meeting (proposed Jan. 13) to meet publication timing and to include a clear reference or attachment to section 109‑54 so the public knows exact locations and 30‑minute time limits. The board will publish hearing notices and present the proposed language for public comment at the January hearing.
