Goodfellows mark 99 years, call for volunteers; Holly Jolly Trolley returns to Nautical Mile

Mike Cook, president of the St. Clair Shores Goodfellows, told the council the organization has served the city for 99 years and described two main fundraisers: a paper sale on Saturday, Dec. 6 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. (volunteers should report to Saint Lucy's) and medallion/card donations available year-round at local establishments. He provided a helpline for families in need: (586) 980-0400, with the line open through Dec. 13 and interviews scheduled on Dec. 15. Cook said the Goodfellows provide holiday food baskets and gift cards for children under 16 and maintain scholarship awards for two seniors at each of the three local high schools.
Virginia Todd of Trader Todd's described the Holly Jolly Trolley for the Nautical Mile: free service Dec. 6, 13 and 20 from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., stopping at participating restaurants and marinas and including live-tracking at nauticalmile.org. Todd said the program is intended to bring customers to restaurants and support businesses during slower winter weeks.
Council members thanked the Goodfellows and volunteer groups and encouraged residents to sign up for collection and delivery shifts. The council also noted several holiday community events (tree lighting, community chorus, charitable galas) and reminded residents about volunteer opportunities such as the snow-brigade program.
