Anna Birsen of the Riley County Appraisers Office told commissioners on Nov. 24 that the county will roll out a new online property information portal, Beacon, on Dec. 1.
Birsen said Beacon, provided by Schneider Geospatial, will replace the county’s partial search system and deliver expanded search functions, detailed property reports, interactive GIS maps and comparable sales reports. The current site will remain available through Dec. 30 to give residents time to adjust.
The appraisers office will provide contact information for users who find errors; Birsen advised residents to call the appraisers office at the number listed on the county website for corrections. She emphasized that the appraisers’ office discovers and values property but does not set tax rates, which are determined by local governing bodies.
