Person County adopts Caswell boundary survey, delays effective date to allow coordinated implementation

Person County commissioners approved the North Carolina Geodetic Survey’s boundary report for the Caswell–Person county line but agreed to a later effective date so both counties can implement required parcel, tax and emergency‑service updates.

Planning and GIS staff presented the survey results and described an overall net change of approximately 0.28 acres in boundary alignment. Staff explained these minor shifts could affect property tax jurisdiction, zoning applicability, school assignments and 9‑1‑1 response records, and said property owners would be notified and permanent monuments installed by the Geodetic Survey.

Because Caswell County staff asked for additional time to complete implementation tasks, staff proposed a substitute motion to set a later effective date to allow both counties to coordinate changes for the 2027 tax cycle.
