The Osage County Commission on Nov. 25 approved Resolution 2025-28 formally adopting the Lake Region Solid Waste Management Plan following an annual review presented by a Lake Region representative. The resolution certifies the county has reviewed the plan and authorizes the county signature on the review letter.
The Lake Region representative told commissioners the annual review updates basic data — names, dates and minor edits — while a full overhaul occurs every five years. The presenter said the regional board prefers keeping data current annually rather than waiting for a five-year update. The representative also said the Lake Region had accumulated funds and “we are willing to give back to each county $5,000, towards improvements on that recycling part of it,” as a contribution counties may use for projects or matching funds.
Commissioners discussed practical items the county will update in its county-specific section, such as local site locations and board membership. The presenter warned counties without an established household hazardous waste (HHW) program could get state scrutiny and recommended retaining or improving recycling services rather than dismantling them, noting contamination at collection sites drives up disposal costs.
The commission moved, seconded and approved the resolution by voice vote. Commissioners and staff clarified signing logistics so the county’s approval is reflected on the formal signature page. No further formal action on program changes was taken; the county will consider local operational changes and potential grant applications to address equipment, buildings and collection logistics.
Next steps: the signed resolution will be returned to the Lake Region as the county’s certification of review, and county staff said they will follow up on potential grant opportunities and specific project proposals.
