Mauldin — Mayor Terry W. Merritt and council members formally recognized native son Justin Emmanuel Dean during the Nov. 17 meeting, reading a proclamation that highlights Dean’s advancement to the major leagues and his role on the Los Angeles Dodgers’ 2025 World Series roster.
The mayor read the proclamation and presented a plaque and a large commemorative sign. Councilwoman King and community members, including former coaches and Malden High School staff, joined in the presentation. Dean’s family accepted the honors and brief remarks highlighted his local roots and role as a mentor for young athletes.
Mayor Merritt said the city will mark Dec. 6, 2025 as “Justin Dean Day” and called on citizens to observe the date in recognition of his accomplishments.
The presentation concluded with a small reception and cake.
