Socorro ISD trustees approved a second phase of staffing requests Wednesday that district HR said will address immediate academic and operational needs while remaining fiscally neutral against current vacant positions.
Chief Human Resources Officer Selena Stiles presented the request (phase 2) for roughly $500,000 to add specific positions including library aides, custodians, a special systems supervisor, and other campus‑level supports. Stiles reminded the board the district previously executed a conservative staffing posture, used an early separation incentive and nonrenewal actions earlier in the year and had closed some vacancies to preserve budget flexibility.
Trustees asked for continued transparency and for projection data on natural attrition and the expected impact of an estimated 800‑student decline next year. Trustee Macias requested timely attrition and projection data so the board can monitor risk to employment levels and program continuity. Administration said the positions will be funded by reusing salary dollars from vacant lines and that they will revisit staffing decisions before actual hires if enrollment trends worsen.
