Walton County approved a package of transportation actions on Nov. 24 to advance County Road 395 North reconstruction with multiuse path.
Engineering presented task order ENG25-11 for construction engineering and inspection (CEI) services not-to-exceed $307,180. Commissioners questioned the CEI cost and whether the county could perform more CEI functions in-house; staff said CEI is commonly about 8–12% of construction cost and some projects (especially grant-funded ones) require an independent CEI firm. The board voted to approve the CEI task order after discussion.
The board then approved awarding the construction contract (ITB ENG25-23) to low bidder Roberts & Roberts Inc. for $3,001,789.80 and authorized the chair to sign the contract. Commissioners stressed the importance of keeping the long-delayed project moving for the community.
What happens next: County staff will execute the CEI task order and construction contract, mobilize the contractor and coordinate staging and detours; CEI work will document pay items, testing and compliance through construction.
