The council received an email from Amara Walsh requesting that the town’s short‑term rental owner‑occupancy requirement be applied differently for active‑duty military families under temporary orders. Staff explained that implementing the suggested carve‑out would likely require amendments to both the tax classification ordinance and the zoning code because the short‑term rental ordinance passed about a year ago contains an owner‑on‑premises requirement during rentals.
Council members agreed they would seek more information before making any ordinance changes. The council continued the matter to its Dec. 15 meeting and asked staff to contact Walsh to invite her to the hearing. Don Morin, who reported on the tax‑classification subcommittee’s follow‑up work, said the subcommittee found existing ordinances largely reflected council intent and that the topic involves a number of specific exceptions that may require a defined exception or review process rather than a simple ordinance change.
No ordinance change was adopted; council requested additional information and directed staff to place the item on the Dec. 15 agenda for further consideration.
