Yesfolk, a kombucha brewer and tasting room, won the board’s approval to paint its business name and logo on the front and side of its building at 467 Fifth Avenue.
Applicant Adam Alabd presented mock-ups and said the work is painted directly onto cinderblock rather than a protruding sign. "We're a kombucha brewery... We make kombucha," Alabd said, explaining the designs and that he and his wife sought an aesthetic, artist-made sign to identify the business and an adjacent community fridge. Board members asked whether a painted logo with the business name counted as a sign under the code; staff and members determined the sign review process applied and treated the application as a SEQR type‑2 matter. The motion to approve the painted sign passed after members complimented the applicant’s building rehabilitation.
Alabd said Yesfolk is open to the public on weekends and is also pursuing state licensing for a small cidery operation; board members discussed parking and yard use for seasonal seating but left operational and liquor licensing issues to state and building-permit processes.
The approval allows the painted sign and logo as presented; any changes to size, materials or protruding hardware would require additional review or permits.
