District administration reported a phishing incident that briefly compromised a staff email account and resulted in a suspicious message being sent to some staff and students.
Dr. Zirpoli told the board the district and Mr. Menard responded immediately. "An email was sent to all staff explaining that a staff member's email account had been briefly compromised, and that a phishing email was sent to some staff and students," she said. Principals were asked to notify students in grades 3–12 and Ms. Mangle sent a parent notification advising families to delete any suspicious messages.
According to the report, Mr. Menard and his team have been installing additional email filters and screening incoming messages to prevent further phishing attempts; Mr. Menard was scheduled to meet with the administrative team to review the incident and next steps. The administration described cybersecurity as an ongoing priority and commended the rapid response.
What’s next: IT will implement new filters, staff will be briefed and the administrative team will review the incident and any further remediation steps.
