Unidentified Speaker 7 informed commissioners that Missoula County had been served with a wrongful-death lawsuit captioned "Nicholas Michael v Missouri County, DV 251096" and that three staff members are named in the complaint (at the time of the update those staff members had not been served). The speaker said the complaint alleges wrongful death after the individual was arrested by the Missouri Police Department in December, brought into the facility, and died on December 8; an autopsy reportedly showed a ruptured bag of methamphetamine in the decedent's stomach.

The speaker said the county's office intends to defend the county and expected to file an answer within 21 days and to provide a more substantive update at the next litigation briefing.
