County approves distribution of roughly $1 million in opioid settlement funds to five local programs

The Natrona County Board approved recommendations from the opioid task force to allocate approximately $1,000,000 across five organizations selected via RFP and interview. Commissioner Nicholas summarized the task force’s recommendations and said the county’s share of the distribution would be roughly half of the total listed amounts.
The proposed allocations were: $372,000 to Detrona, $255,236 to UW Family Practice, $173,000 to drug court, $100,000 to the Salvation Army, and $100,000 to WBI. Commissioner Nicholas and other task force members said the plan spreads funding across prevention, treatment and recovery services and includes reporting requirements for recipients.
The board moved and approved the allocations and directed that agreements be executed consistent with proposals and for recipients to provide written and oral reporting back to the county and city during the year. Commissioners said the approach intentionally used about one third of the county’s available settlement funds in a first round to test outcomes and inform subsequent rounds.
