The Tiburon Town Council voted Dec. 3 to adopt updates to the town’s building code, incorporating the state-authorized building and energy codes (CalGreen and related energy standards), and ratified the Southern Marin Fire District and Tiburon Fire Protection District adoptions of the fire codes.
Staff told the council the ordinance had appeared on the Nov. 19 agenda for first reading and that the clerk had properly posted the required public hearing notice under state law. “This is an update to the building code, including the green building, CalGreen, and the energy code,” staff said, and recommended waiving second reading and adopting the ordinance by reference.
Mayor Thier moved to adopt the ordinance by reference and include modifications to the latest state-authorized construction and fire codes, and to ratify the fire districts’ adoptions of the updated fire codes. The motion received a second and passed on a roll-call vote with Council member Fredericks, Council member Nick Farr, Vice Mayor Wellner and Mayor Thier voting in favor; Council member Ryan was absent.
The adoption brings Tiburon’s municipal code into alignment with the most recent state building and energy standards and formally recognizes the adjacent fire districts’ code adoptions; staff said the change was required to maintain consistency with state law and local fire-safety requirements.
