Largo commission adopts recreation fee increases on 6–1 vote

The Largo City Commission on Sept. 2 adopted Ordinance 2025-34 on second and final reading, amending fees charged by the Recreation, Parks and Arts Department. The ordinance, as filed, updates Appendix B, section 10 of the Largo City Code; the changes will take effect Oct. 1, 2025.
Commissioner Smith asked whether staff had sought early citizen input on the fee changes and urged the city to do more to inform residents about what their fees pay for. "I think engaging our citizens more in that aspect, especially it's not that hard with if we have their e mails," Smith said during the discussion, asking that future reserve increases include resident engagement. City staff responded that the increased fees are intended to build a reserve over several years and that no specific projects have yet been identified for those funds.
A motion to adopt Ordinance 2025-34 on second and final reading passed 6–1. No public comment cards were submitted on the ordinance at the meeting.
The ordinance contains standard severability and effective-date provisions and was presented as the Recreation, Parks and Arts Department's fee schedule update. The commission directed staff to consider including resident engagement in future communications about how fee increases are used.
