Lorain City Schools board approves routine items, votes to enter executive session

The Lorain City Schools board on Nov. 24 approved routine agenda items — including minutes from its Nov. 10 meeting, treasurer reports, personnel actions and operations items — and voted to enter an executive session for employment.

The board moved to approve the Nov. 10 minutes and, after a roll-call vote, recorded affirmative responses from board members and carried the motion. The treasurer presented items 8.01–8.03, which the board approved; during discussion an unnamed board member thanked donors who supported a wellness room at the high school, saying she had "heard nothing but great things" about the facility and those donations.

Doctor Ballard moved the personnel slate (items 9.01–9.06). On the roll call for personnel items, Doctor Ballard, Missus Nazario, Mister Ferguson and Mister Sturgill voted yes; Missus Washington voted no. The personnel package passed with one dissenting vote.

The board then considered operations items 10.01–10.17. During discussion a board member questioned why item 10.07 — referred to in the meeting as "the amendment of courage" in the transcript — appeared again after a Nov. 10 approval and whether contract language had changed. The operations slate was approved by the members present.

Before adjourning to closed session, a board member moved to enter an executive session "for the reason a 2 employment" (verbatim from the record). The motion was seconded, and the roll-call vote recorded affirmative responses from Missus Washington, Doctor Ballard, Mister Ferguson, Missus Nazario and Mister Sturgill; the motion carried and the board prepared to move into executive session.

The chair announced the next board meeting is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 8 at 5 p.m. at Lorain High School.
