The Lamar City Council approved the first reading of an ordinance to rezone Dogwood Industrial Park from I2 (Industrial Business District) to B2 (General Business District) at its Nov. 18 meeting.
Council opened the public hearing but received no public comments and turned to the council for consideration. "Amending zoning districts for Dogwood Industrial Park, first edition, from I2 Industrial Business District to B2 General Business District," a council member read during the motion to approve first reading. Speaker 5 moved the measure and the motion was seconded.
During discussion, a council member asked the property owner addressed as Steve about intended uses. Steve said he had no concrete plans and had not posted the property for sale, but that rezoning would make it "easier to do business and stuff." The council said the Administration and Planning and Zoning Commission recommended approval.
The council conducted a roll-call vote and the presiding official announced the motion carried. Members answering in the roll call included Brens (yes), Pick (yes), Beto ("yep"), Wick (yes) and Sturgeon (yes). The ordinance was recorded for a first reading; additional readings or procedural steps remain before any final adoption.
The rezoning changes the official district designation for the Dogwood site from an industrial classification toward general business uses, allowing a broader set of commercial activities if subsequent readings and approvals are completed. No formal development plan or purchaser was announced at the meeting.
Next steps: the ordinance will proceed according to the council’s ordinance schedule; the council did not set a final-adoption date during the Nov. 18 meeting.
