The Columbus City Council on Dec. 1, 2025, elected Troy Heimer, Ward 2, as council president and approved committee assignments for council members, the body said at the start of its December meeting.
A council member (Speaker 4) nominated "the fine gentleman from Ward 2, Troy Heimer, as president," and the nomination was seconded and closed by motion. With one candidate on the ballot, the council moved, seconded and approved the election by voice vote.
The appointments approved by the council place Cynthia Alarcon, Troy Heimer, Rich Jablonski and AJ Polanski on the Public Finance, Judiciary and Personnel Committee. Charlie Barr, Catherine Lopez, Jay Brent Roth and Ron Schilling were named to the Public Property, Safety and Works Committee. The city administrator/staff presented the proposed committee rosters and the council approved them without separate debate.
Council members opened the meeting by following the required invocation and pledge and then moved immediately to leadership and committee business customary for the first council meeting in December. The new president will carry responsibilities for presiding over future council meetings and coordinating with staff on agenda flow.
The council adjourned after completing the evening's agenda items.
