Commission approves rezoning of Oliver Wheat Road parcel for family lots

On Dec. 2 the Livingston Parish Zoning Commission approved a rezoning request for parcel 0246561 on Oliver Wheat Road (case 25-61), changing the designation from C-1 to R-1.
Thomas Johnson, representing Alvin Fairburn & Associates, told the commission the owner intends to subdivide the 6.87-acre tract into three lots for his children to build single-family homes. Johnson said the rezoning request is for residential use to allow three lots.
Department staff noted that the parcel should not have been zoned C-1 and described the property as a wooded tract more appropriate for residential development. A nearby resident, Steven Young, asked what the commercial zoning intent was; staff and the chair clarified the highlighted area in question is the only portion under review and the intent for the hearing is residential.
Commissioners approved the rezoning by recorded vote. The commission closed the public hearing and moved the matter forward as part of its docket for final administrative handling.
