Council approves technical tree-preservation and zoning code amendments

Brookhaven's City Council approved Nov. 18 a package of technical amendments to the tree-preservation ordinance and related zoning code sections intended to clarify procedures and ease conflicts where utilities or limited right-of-way make tree plantings infeasible.
Staff said the amendments align the tree ordinance with zoning provisions, add a streetscape waiver for utility conflicts, revise variance criteria related to trees and create an administrative variance for minor encroachments into buildable areas. The planning staff recommended approval and council members thanked staff for addressing developer and homeowner concerns.
Council moved and unanimously approved the ordinance (TA25-06 and related zoning changes) after a short public comment period with no substantive opposition.
