Committee backs extension of Warner & Swayze brownfield loan sunset to align with developer timeline

Cuyahoga County Department of Development staff asked the committee to amend a prior resolution to extend the sunset date for the county’s matching forgivable loan to the Warner & Swayze brownfield remediation project. Staff said the project’s developer requested a revised timeline and the state has granted an extension; the county extension would align the matching loan with the developer’s updated schedule.
Nick Fedor of the Department of Development told the committee the developer had sought and the state had granted an extension, and that the county’s amendment would extend the loan sunset to Dec. 31, 2026. Fedor said the extension is a scheduling alignment and “simply is an extension of the sunset date, but the project scope remains the same.”
Committee members asked about funding gaps and project progress; staff replied they could follow up with details on the outstanding funding gap and noted the developer had indicated it had satisfied the gap in communications with staff. A motion to move the item to full council was made, seconded and approved by voice vote so the full council can act on the extension.
