Florence Fire/EMS honored for rapid response in mutual-aid childbirth call

Chris Vogelbaum, identified in the meeting as manager of EMS Outreach for Saint Elizabeth, told the council that staff nurses and nurse managers from the emergency department selected the crew as a "crew of the quarter" for 2025. Vogelbaum described a run in which Florence Fire and EMS, working alongside the Ellesmere Fire Department, cared for a mother and newborn: "Florence recognized that the mom had significant postpartum hemorrhage, which can be life threatening and took excellent care of the mother," he said.
Vogelbaum said Florence personnel provided rapid postpartum care and expedited transfer to Saint Elizabeth Edgewood's labor and delivery unit; the mother required an extended hospital stay but was discharged home in good condition. Josh Cox assisted in presenting certificates and small tokens of appreciation during the caucus. The department specifically named paramedic Warren Gullfus and Captain Chris Furman as the recognized crew members.
The presiding official and council members offered public thanks and praised the crew for their teamwork and collaboration with regional EMS and hospital staff. No formal council action was taken; the recognition was presented as an item of appreciation during the caucus.
The council moved on to other agenda items after the presentation.
