Students brief board on Student Roundtable plans; Hackbots praise proposed STEM facility

Representatives of the district’s Student Roundtable and the Hackbots robotics team addressed the board Dec. 2 with updates on student engagement and STEM activities.
Miriam, speaking for the Student Roundtable executive board, said the group met Nov. 19 to reaffirm its purpose of connecting students, administrators and board members; SRT is recruiting three freshmen from each high school, prioritizing diverse perspectives and is working on transportation and safety concerns. The next SRT meeting is scheduled for Dec. 9 at Farmington High.
Jessica George, outreach lead for the Hackbots, and Charlie Guralnick, the team’s safety captain, used the public comment period to describe recent community service efforts (a battery and hygiene drive and the Giving Tree), outreach robo camps to introduce students to STEM, and to thank the board for ongoing conversations about a proposed STEM facility. Guralnick noted the team’s safety training and mock kickoff preparations for the January competition season.
Board members praised the student groups for inclusivity and encouraged continued collaboration with the superintendent and district staff. The board requested follow‑up information where appropriate and thanked students for presenting.
