Anne Stevens, director of nutrition services, presented a proposal Dec. 2 to purchase eight new food warming carts to update the district’s meal delivery system. The request would add one warmer to each of four elementary schools (Lanigan, Longacre, Forest, Hillside) and four for the Farmington Early Childhood Child Care Center (FECC).
Stevens said four competitive bids were received with prices ranging from $79,962 to $84,831; she recommended Gold Star Products at $79,962 and said pricing is guaranteed through Dec. 24, after which the district would need to re‑solicit amid expected price increases. If approved, the purchase would be funded from the food service fund and treated as part of a spend‑down plan.
Trustees asked how the carts would be used and whether the request replaced aging units or added capacity; Stevens said elementary schools already have some warmers but several are nearing end of life and the FECC currently uses damaged warming bags that need replacement. Trustees requested inventory context and asked the administration to include how the purchase fits district‑wide into the next meeting’s packet.
Next steps: The item remained in discussion and trustees requested additional inventory and replacement planning information at a future meeting before final approval.
