The Sandpoint City Council on Nov. 19 handled routine and contested business before a large public turnout. The clerk announced regular payables of $296,944.81. Council removed item 5 (University Park Place Subdivision Phase 3 final plat) from consent at the request of Councilor Trevor and later tabled it to the regular agenda. Council tabled a proposed resolution to award downtown revitalization design services to Welch Comer to the December meeting, and similarly tabled the Cedar Street reconstruction update for future consideration.
On the night's central contested item, the council accepted dozens of public comments and then voted to repeal and replace City Code 5-2-10 (the nondiscrimination ordinance). After a tie on first reading the mayor broke the tie to allow first reading by title, and after a second tie he again cast the deciding vote to pass the ordinance in full under suspension of the three-reading rule.
Other votes during the meeting included roll-call approval of the consent calendar as amended and multiple tabling motions for items moved off consent for fuller consideration at later meetings. The council scheduled the previously removed items for future agendas and asked staff to prepare follow-up materials where appropriate.
