Norwalk awarded $800,000 CTDOT grant for Wall Street corridor improvements

The Norwalk Economic and Community Development Committee on Dec. 3 voted to forward authorization for the mayor to accept an $800,000 Community Connectivity Grant from the Connecticut Department of Transportation for continued improvements to the Wall Street corridor.
Nel, the city’s traffic analyst, said the grant will continue Phase 1 construction of pedestrian improvements, street lighting and streetscape work from Brook Street up to East Avenue and will fund the first gateway arch selected through community input. "We got awarded in full $800,000," Nel told the committee and said a public meeting will be organized for the project rollout.
Council members called the award a significant investment for a neighborhood long awaiting improvements. "This is a huge investment and a huge project that's going to utterly transform this neighborhood," the committee chair said, and members praised the Transportation, Mobility and Parking department and Nel for securing the funding.
The committee voted unanimously to authorize the mayor to enter into documents required by the Connecticut Department of Transportation to accept the grant and will forward the authorization to full council.
