Council committees advance multiple board nominations to Dec. 9 full council meeting

Six nominations and two reappointments heard in the personnel committee were carried to the full Lancaster City Council meeting on Dec. 9.

Nominees introduced themselves and described relevant experience. Sean Balani told the committee he has lived in Lancaster County about 53 years, ran his own business for 33 years and previously served on an airport marketing subcommittee; the committee moved his nomination for the Lancaster Airport Authority to the Dec. 9 meeting. Emily Wilson said she has lived in the city more than 10 years, lives on the East Side and described her background as a geologist and long‑time bicycle commuter as motivating her interest in land use; the committee moved her nomination for the Planning Commission to Dec. 9. Howard Montgomery described 14 years in Lancaster and roughly 20 years in planning and design work and his interest in serving; the committee moved his candidate nomination to Dec. 9. Charles Porter Stevens, an alternate member and a professional urban planner who is the director of community development for Manheim Township, spoke about serving as a full voting member; the committee moved his nomination to Dec. 9.

The committee also moved two reappointments — Olivia Classic and Christina Deal — for continued service on the City Redevelopment and Improvement Zone Authority; both members currently serve on the board and their terms expire this month.

Each of these personnel items was advanced by motion in committee and carried without recorded opposition. The nominations will be considered at the council’s Dec. 9 meeting for formal appointment.
