Greene County approves $50,000 in emergency pantry grants, clears airport land transfer for Beavercreek fire station

Greene County commissioners on Nov. 6 approved a series of measures that included a $50,000 transfer to provide emergency grants to two area food pantries and the release of aeronautical-use obligations on about 4.044 acres at the Greene County Lewis A. Jackson Regional Airport to allow Beavercreek Township to build a fire station.
County staff described the $50,000 as a Board of Commissioners allocation to be split into two $25,000 grants for the Fairborn Fish Pantry and the Greene County Fish Pantry to help residents affected by a recent federal government shutdown and related furloughs. Staff said the Fairborn pantry served about 800 people the prior week and that the Xenia pantry is operating with a multi-week waiting list, a situation staff and commissioners characterized as evidence of urgent community need.
The airport action clears aeronautical-use restrictions on the roughly 4.044-acre parcel at the Lewis A. Jackson Regional Airport so the airport can transfer the land to Beavercreek Township at no cost. According to staff, the airport board previously approved the transfer and the Federal Aviation Administration required a structure that provided a beneficial use to the airport; in exchange for the parcel the airport will be able to use some space inside the new fire facility.
Commissioners approved the $71,642 biennial grant agreement with the Ohio Department of Children and Youth to cover Family and Children First administrative costs for fiscal years 2026–27 and approved an amendment to a reclaim grant for the assessment intervention center that reduces the horticulture supervisor hourly rate (position vacant), replaces a dishwasher, incorporates trauma-informed design changes and reduces horticulturist hours.
Other routine approvals included declaring two bicycles found by the sheriff's office as obsolete and authorizing them for sale or disposal, a 100% release of the performance bond for sanitary and water lines at Sky Crossing Section 2, authorization to re-advertise a reduced-scope OhioMeansJobs interior renovation focused on ADA-accessible restrooms, and approval of an updated Agricultural Society lease that consolidates the main space and the Buckeye Room and adjusts the long-unchanged lease rate.
