Staff previews affordable housing RFP and highlights 2025 housing awards

Housing staff told the commission the city is preparing an affordable housing RFP for Council consideration Jan. 20 and highlighted multiple 2025 awards, including state recognition as a pro-housing city and honors from regional associations.
Housing division staff updated the Community Development Commission on Nov. 19 that the city is drafting an RFP for affordable housing development with the goal of recommending the RFP to City Council on Jan. 20.
The staff member said the RFP will adhere to the city’s affordable housing funds policies and procedures and is intended to spur new affordable housing opportunities. The staff update also listed multiple awards the housing division received in 2025: recognition by the Department of Housing and Community Development as one of two "pro housing" cities in Orange County and awards from the American Planning Association, Orange County Business Council, Association of California Cities Orange County, the Kennedy Commission, the Southern California Association of Nonprofit Housing and the California Building Industry Association.
A staff speaker noted the department’s success this year and encouraged commissioners to continue coordinating with Council members on housing and nonprofit priorities. Commissioners offered congratulations and holiday wishes before the Chair closed the meeting.
