Greene County commissioners approve routine contracts, grants and spending; agricultural lease tabled

The Greene County Board of Commissioners on Oct. 30 approved a series of routine financial actions and contracts, while tabling an agricultural-society lease and briefly entering executive session.
In a single meeting the commissioners authorized transfers and appropriations tied to prosecutor’s office grant accounting, approved a subgrant of $280,000 in Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) funds to Greene County Family and Children First, and accepted an amended FY2026 reclaim grant from the Ohio Department of Youth Services after the juvenile court made requested revisions.
The board awarded a home-rehabilitation project in Bath Township to Acorn Construction and Remodeling. Staff described the project scope as exterior siding, soffit and fascia work, gutters and downspouts, roofing and some electrical work; the county received only one bid but staff said it was within 20% of the engineer’s estimate.
County leaders also moved forward with a contract for Peterson Construction Company to replace a scribe and primary clarifiers, telling the board that the bid had been awarded Oct. 14 and that staff were prepared to enter the agreement.
Several smaller departmental spending requests were approved: up to $100 for a Department of Development retirement luncheon honoring Janice Brooks, up to $500 for adult-probation holiday luncheons (Nov. 1Dec. 31, 2025), and up to $250 for an adult-probation retirement luncheon. The board declared certain building-rigs equipment (eight iPads and nine iPhones) obsolete and authorized trade-in, accepting a vendor credit of $2,775 toward new acquisitions.
One contested item was an agricultural-society lease that staff said had encountered a couple of issues; commissioners voted to table the item for further work. A commissioner stated they would recuse from any eventual final vote on the lease, but that recusal applied to the final approval rather than the tabling motion.
Before the meeting’s substantive business began, Pastor Aaron Hedges of Calvary Baptist Church delivered the opening prayer, asking the commissioners to be guided toward "wise and compassionate decisions for the good of all." The board later moved into an executive session to consider personnel matters pursuant to ORC section 121.22(g)(1); the chair said no immediate action was expected when the board reconvened.
The board closed with brief commissioner comments and local announcements, including a report that the Emerge Recovery and Trade Center fundraiser had raised about $450,000. The commissioners said they would reconvene for a short work session after adjournment.
