Board approves 2026–27 calendar and four policy amendments

At its Nov. 17 meeting, the Monticello Public School District board approved the proposed 2026–27 school year calendar and adopted four policy amendments after second readings.
Superintendent Eric Olsen presented the calendar that proposes a staggered start beginning before Labor Day to preserve family weekends while offering families earlier notice; the board approved the calendar on a 6–0 voice vote (moved by Melissa Curtis, seconded by Casey Root).
Director of Human Resources Rob Daneker presented four policies for action: Policy 203.2 (order of the regular school board meeting, including language on moments of silence and proclamations); Policy 601 (school district curriculum and instructional goals — replacing prior "world's best workforce" language with "comprehensive achievement and civic readiness"); Policy 606 (textbooks and instructional materials, amending inspection/access language consistent with new legislation); and Policy 610 (field trips, updated through triannual review). The board moved and approved the policy amendments on a 6–0 vote.
Chair Steven adjourned the regular meeting at 7:33 p.m.; the board will reconvene for a work session and the next regular meeting is set for Dec. 1, 2025, for the truth-in-taxation hearing.
