County highway staff said MnDOT determined the bridge at the closure is structurally compromised and is responsible for replacement; MnDOT closed the trunk highway and will detour traffic onto county routes. Staff asked the board to approve the draft agreement and an associated resolution now so signatures can be collected without waiting for the final paperwork; the board approved both by voice vote.
Commissioners also approved revisions to the county’s annual road‑restriction map to reflect temporary 5‑ton postings on affected township roads where Seminary heavy vehicles and semis have been detouring. Staff said adding the postings to the official county road‑restriction map improves enforcement and clarifies responsibility with townships and MnDOT.
The county separately approved awarding tractor rental services to Valley Plains Equipment of Crookston, Minn., at $25 per hour to provide leased equipment for winter and summer mowing — a contract the highway office said reflects rising equipment costs.
