Public Works committee approves road salt purchase, vehicle upfitting and lift-station contracts

The Public Works & Utilities Committee meeting Nov. 24 approved several operating and capital items ahead of winter operations and maintenance planning.
The committee approved a resolution to purchase road salt from Morton Salt Inc. for $228,378. Staff reported the per-ton cost this year (quoted as $67.84 in initial remarks and later corrected in discussion to $67.17) and said the village’s current stock plus the purchase should provide adequate salt for the season.
Members also approved a $332,459.02 upfitting contract with Henderson Truck Equipment (Gilberts, Ill.) to equip two large dump trucks purchased in 2024 with snow- and ice-control gear; staff estimated delivery in 2027. The committee approved a not-to-exceed $155,487.94 agreement with Sciorba Group Inc. for a third‑party assessment of lift stations to aid long-term capital improvement planning. Finally, the committee approved change order No. 3 with Martim Construction (Elgin, Ill.) for $29,709.92 to finalize an identified lift-station improvement project; staff noted a 48‑day time extension had been included and that some costs were submitted to ComEd for reimbursement.
The committee also approved an ordinance accepting public improvements at 1721 Moon Lake Boulevard (Seasons Apartments) related to a recent water-main installation. Monthly Public Works and Engineering Division reports were received and filed. All items were approved by voice vote.
