Chandler Pohl, vice president and legal counsel for MGM Resorts International, introduced the company’s presentation. Hornbuckle described market conditions, MGM’s BetMGM and iGaming activities, international projects including Macau and a major Osaka development, and a philanthropic plan to help raise funds for a long‑planned children’s hospital on land associated with UNLV’s research campus.
Hornbuckle told commissioners the hospital project is a roughly $1 billion effort and that he and his wife have committed to step forward to help raise money. "It is desperately needed," Hornbuckle said, adding that thousands of local children currently must leave the community for specialized care.
Commissioners asked questions about Hornbuckle’s background and disclosed past working relationships; several noted Hornbuckle’s strong suitability record and the company’s importance to Nevada’s economy. Commissioner comments were uniformly supportive and the motion to approve the application passed unanimously.
The commission approved the licensure as recommended by the Nevada Gaming Control Board; the secretary noted the board’s recommendation and that the motion carried with all commissioners voting aye.
