Jenks Public Works Authority approves $226,013 payment for ODOT-led 121st Street trail

The Jenks Public Works Authority on Dec. 2 approved authorization to pay $226,013 to the Oklahoma Department of Transportation for the 121st Street trail project (Elm to Elwood), part of an ODOT-let construction contract.
City Engineer Wilkins summarized the project and the bid results: the overall low bid for the trail was $888,471 and Jenks’ portion of the project will be $226,013. "We're asking for authorization for $226,013 for the Jenks part in this overall project," Wilkins said. Wilkins described the trail as a 10-foot-wide asphalt path with concrete edges and a generally straight/meandering alignment on the south side.
Wilkins and councilmembers discussed funding and maintenance. Staff confirmed the project is administered by ODOT (FAP) and that the city’s appropriation will come from the 1¢ capital fund (street maintenance, roads and bridges) via a Public Works Authority resolution. Councilmember Murray observed that HOA responsibilities for right-of-way mowing could affect future maintenance costs, and staff said portions of maintenance expectations remain to be clarified with property owners and HOA plans.
A motion to approve the payment authorization was made and seconded; roll-call votes were recorded as "Yes" by Brown, Short, Abel, Murray and Chair Box, and the item passed.
The approval authorizes the payment requested by ODOT; final project oversight, contract administration and construction remain under ODOT’s management, per staff comments.
