The plan also proposes a countywide turkey-or-ham giveaway estimated at roughly $22,000, a Department of Social Services distribution allocation of about $3,000, and approximately $4,000 for care packages for nursing home residents and caregivers. The total range presented to the board was roughly $37,500 to $38,500.
Commissioners discussed vendor options, township distribution plans and the idea of working with existing food banks and faith-based partners to reach more residents. The board moved to proceed with the proposal and approved it by voice vote.
The board asked that staff publish a budget outline and to continue outreach with food banks and local partners to refine distribution plans.
