Jenks council approves Ordinance 1677 to close utility easement near 131st and Peoria/Elm

The Jenks City Council voted unanimously on Dec. 2 to adopt Ordinance 1677, which authorizes closure of a platted utility easement (utility easement closure 25–04) affecting property described as south of 131st and east of Peoria/Elm related to the Sunrise Bridal development.
Mrs. Hilton, representing city counsel/staff, told the council the item had been reviewed by the technical advisory committee and that state statute requires a 30-day notice to public utility companies. "State statute requires a 30 day notice to the public utility companies," she said, and staff confirmed notices were sent on Oct. 27 and that no comments were outstanding as of that date.
The council asked for any questions; none were raised. A motion to approve Ordinance 1677 was made and seconded, and roll-call votes were recorded as "Yes" from Councilmembers Brown, Short, Abel, Murray and Mayor Box.
The ordinance was removed from consent for separate consideration because state law requires an ordinance for a public way/platted easement closure. Officials noted the matter could return to district court vacation proceedings as part of the property process.
The council’s action closes the local legislative step necessary to proceed with the property-owner’s request; additional legal or court steps (district court vacation) were flagged by staff as a potential next step for the applicant.
