NORWOOD, Mass. — The Norwood Zoning Board of Appeals voted Dec. 2 to grant a special permit for an addition at 70 Casey Street, approving plans that the applicant said would enlarge the home by roughly 350 square feet.
Mark Croke, the contractor for the project, told the board the proposed addition would be “all conforming” with setbacks and would add about 350 square feet of living space. Board members questioned the percent increase relative to the existing house and reviewed elevations and height measurements before concluding the proposal met the town’s zoning standards for the neighborhood.
Neighbor Jennifer Kodaro, who identified herself as living directly behind the property, asked how the addition would affect the rear setback; the chair and staff confirmed the plan shows a 77.8-foot distance to the rear property line, which exceeds the town’s requirement.
After questions from board members about bedrooms, height and frontage, the board closed the public hearing. A motion to approve the special permit as presented carried unanimously; Shannon, Paul, Matt, Rachel and another member recorded affirmative votes.
The board clerk will prepare a written decision; the applicant was advised of a 20-day appeal period following issuance of the decision.
The addition approval was the first of two contested items on the board’s Dec. 2 agenda. The meeting continued with a separate appeal concerning 558 Pleasant Street.
