Council approved Resolution R2 amending the FY26 budget to fund an additional assistant Commonwealth’s attorney position. Finance staff said $85,000 in state funds (general funds of 2021) were available and that the reallocation would not change the adopted bottom-line city budget. The funds had been previously appropriated and were reassigned to support the new position.
Vice Mayor Joyner moved approval; Councilor Day seconded. Council voted 5–0 in favor on a roll call. Staff said there was no additional local general-fund cost tied to this adjustment because the money was previously appropriated for part-time positions and was being reassigned to the Commonwealth’s attorney’s office.
The council’s action authorizes personnel hiring steps under the city’s budget and payroll procedures; the city manager and human resources will proceed to post and fill the position consistent with budget authorizations.
